Strings for Kids in the Greenfield Public Schools
STRINGS FOR KIDS YEAR 4 - 2011-12
Artspace and the Greenfield Public Schools are working in partnership to provide free violin or cello weekly, group lessons in grades 3, 4 5 & 6. One hundred and five students will be involved in the program this year, the 4th year of the program.
Eighty of those students participated in summer programs here at Artspace. Our String Intensive in July brought together 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students to work in large and small ensembles. Students worked for three hours a day improving their music skills. At the end of the week, students performed at the Energy Park for parents and friends.
In August, first year violin and cello players met for a week to learn the basics of playing their instruments. During the week, students learned how to take care of their instruments, the proper way to hold the instrument and bow; a few songs and a scale; and beginning note reading. The week ended with a concert for parents and friends.
Artspace needs full-size violins. If you have a violin to donate, call us – 413-7726811.
If you would like to make a monetary donation to support the Strings for Kids program,
